PRESBYTERIAN URGENT CARE - ROTATION INFORMATION

Year: PGY3

Rotation contact information:

Important notes about this rotation: ON WEDNESDAY AM'S OF THIS ROTATION, YOU ARE SCHEDULED AT NORTH VALLEY TO WORK WITH THE FOCUS CLINIC. THIS IS A REQUIRED PART OF THIS ROTATION. PLEASE CONTACT CHARITY BISHOP AND SHERRY WEITZEN IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND FOCUS, AS WELL AS DOLORES, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Any day that is not scheduled when you receive your final schedule from Presbyterian will be considered an Admin Time: Clinic/Scholarly/QI Projects

There is one person who does the scheduling for all of the Presbyterian Urgent Cares. She does her best to send the schedules in a timely fashion, but has to fit our residents in to shifts that exist.  She is often not able to create your schedules until about 1-2 weeks prior to start.

Location: Varies

Pre-requisites:

Description of rotation:

Urgent care at Presbyterian is a unique opportunity to experience another system and get exposure to more musculoskeletal concerns, procedures, laceration repair, and other things we don't often get to see in clinic or in our inpatient services.  Dr. Phelps is an invested and amazing teacher.

Process and contact for sick days:

Please contact Dr. Phelps and, as always Dolores.

Schedule:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Urgent Care Shift Urgent Care Shift Focus Clinic NV AM Resident Seminar PM AM/PM Continuity Clinic AM/PM Continuity Clinic

Patient Logs:

Important: We created a logbook in new innovations for peds urgent care visits- what we need you to do is enter the date you saw pts <18 and the number of them you saw that day

go to logger->logbooks->"add new entry" for Pres urgent care pediatric visits. Please do this, we need to capture those visits.

Misc tips:

Food: most locations don't have food available, bring food and also a water bottle that you can refill

EMR: We understand that you won't have EPIC access, we found that it just took too long to sign up and get trained up, so the supervising physicians will help you with notes. This doesn't mean though that they think you are a med student or anything! They just don't want you to have to spend a huge amount of time learning an EMR that may not be useful for you.

Parking: there are no locations that require a parking pass, just don't park in patient parking

Badge: please do wear the badge you get

A highly recommended book (purchase gives you electronic access as well). Recommended for anyone who will be seeing walk-ins in their future: "Minor Emergencies"

Curious about what the most common presenting complaints, diagnoses and types of prescriptions written are at an urgent care?  This presentation has interesting graphs. It's a bit old but still likely representative. http://www.jucm.com/pdf/JUCM_Urgent_Care_Chart_Research.pdf
