There are some days where you have clinic in the morning and then an ED shift that begins a 3pm. When entering duty hours, select "short break "for that period between shifts. You can find the schedule in AMION under the Emergency Department then ED Intern.
Goals
The purpose of this rotation is to offer upper level FM residents an additional experience in acute and emergency care.
Resuscitation shifts are shifts where you can be a part of the ED-based resuscitation team. These shifts are also given to ED interns later in their intern year, so there is a defined role. We think this experience is helpful exposure for all of our residents, but you can opt out if doing these would be very stressful for you. We'll keep shifts and hours equivalent.
We absolutely encourage you to participate in that experience and think it's a rare opportunity to be able to do these with our excellent ER team in a supportive environment where not a lot is expected of you. The desired outcome of the small number of shifts is getting a little more comfortable in those kinds of situations; we've seen that even after a small number of shifts people feel a little more comfortable. You never know will come in your door, even if you work in predominantly outpatient environments!
The schedules for these experiences differ, depending on both time of the year and whether or not you communicated to us that you planned to opt in or not. The clinic schedule is the same regardless.
