IPS Feedback Process
EVERYDAY
After morning sign out: Check in
-- Take 5 minutes to check in and talk about intentions/goals
MONDAY (or TUESDAY2)
After morning sign out: Expectation setting and SMART goals3
-- Faculty member/chief sets expectations for the week.
-- Each resident identifies one personal goal and writes it on the whiteboard.
-- Potential individual SMART goal sheets are available
-- Examples of team goals are also available
FRIDAY
7:00-7:15: Appreciation/kudos as a large group (night and day residents).
-- This intentionally will not be a time for feedback
After morning sign out: Day-Night feedback
-- Within a given team: night resident/intern + senior day resident + attending
During the day: Individual Feedback
In Group of Attending+ Chief + Intern
-- Chief gives feedback to intern about the intern’s smart goals and teamwork
-- Feedback up to be given (intern to chief/attending, chief to attending)
FRIDAY or WEEKEND
--Attending gives feedback to each resident that uses the New Innovations evaluation forms as a starting point. This may happen one-on-one Friday through Sunday, or during the Friday sessions, depending on what the faculty feels works best.
We are hoping to foster a safe, open environment for learning and growing as physicians.
Please let us know if any issues arise. We are open to your feedback! Thanks for your hard work.
2 Do this Tuesday if chiefs or interns are switching
3 What's a SMART goal you ask?
- SMART stands for S- Specific, M- Measurable, A-Attainable, R- Relevant, T- Timely
- Try to avoid a more ambiguous goal like, "We are going to be more efficient". Instead try a SMART goal like, "We will have skeleton notes done prior to rounding each day to help with efficiency."
